Get Your Air Conditioner Check Up Before the Heat HitsYour home’s air conditioner is like any other machine. If it sits for a long time without being used, its condition can actually worsen. Of course, in Alberta, you’re not going to turn on your air conditioning every week during the year, so that means you’ve got to get an air conditioner check up before you start using it in spring and summer.

When your air conditioner sits for months on end without use, connections between parts can deteriorate and freeze, and parts that were about to fail at the end of the previous season can finally do so once you try to make the system work again. Dust can gather in the filters and make indoor air quality poor if you try to use the system without changing them. An air conditioner check up will identify parts that need to be replaced, and a technician will be able to tune up the system as a whole. These checks are also essential for safety because they include the electrical and coolant systems. The last thing you want when you turn on the air conditioning for the first time in a while is for there to be sparks or a coolant leak.

Annual air conditioner maintenance and inspections are easy in and of themselves, but the real issue is the timing. Not only do you have to do this before warmer weather hits, but you also have to score an appointment to get it done while everyone else in the region is trying to do the same thing. As you can imagine, getting an appointment if you wait until the last minute can be an adventure. Calling early also helps you in case you have to reschedule — the sooner you know, the easier it will be to reschedule for a time that is still convenient for you.
